Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about synqology, the Vitality Index, and how it can help you live a longer, healthier life.
synqology is a longevity tracking app that helps you live a longer, healthier life. At its core is the Vitality Index - your personal daily longevity score (0-100) that measures the behaviors and physiology science links to a longer lifespan. The Vitality Index combines:
- Behavior Score: Sleep habits, cardio activity, strength training, daily movement, and mindfulness
- Physiology Score: VO2 Max percentile, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep quality, and body composition
synqology is designed for anyone interested in living a longer, healthier life:
- Longevity-focused individuals who want to track the metrics that science links to lifespan
- Apple Watch users looking for deeper insights into their VO2 Max, HRV, and sleep data
- Fitness enthusiasts who want to understand how their training affects their physiological age
- Health optimizers tracking supplements and habits to see what actually improves their Vitality Index
- Busy professionals who want a simple daily score to know if they're on track
- Anyone curious about their longevity potential and how to improve it
For the full Vitality Index experience, yes - Apple Watch is recommended. The Vitality Index relies on physiological data that only Apple Watch can provide:
- VO2 Max: Your cardiorespiratory fitness - the #1 predictor of longevity
- Heart Rate Variability: Measures your autonomic nervous system health
- Resting Heart Rate: Lower RHR correlates with longer lifespan
- Sleep Stages: REM and deep sleep quality matter for recovery
synqology is currently available for iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) running iOS 15 or later. Apple Watch integration is built-in for full Vitality Index tracking. An Android version is on our roadmap for future development.
Getting started is simple:
- Download the app from the App Store
- Connect Apple Watch - Grant HealthKit permissions to access your health data
- View your Vitality Index - See your longevity score and understand what's driving it
- Chat with synqIQ - Ask questions like "How can I improve my VO2 Max?" or "What's affecting my sleep?"
- Track what matters - Log supplements, habits, or lifestyle changes in the Health Journal to see their impact on your score
The Vitality Index (0-100) is calculated from two main components, each weighted based on peer-reviewed longevity research:
Behavior Score: The actions you control
Behavior Score: The actions you control
- Sleep Behavior: Sleep duration and consistency
- Cardio Activity: Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity minutes
- Strength Training: Resistance exercise sessions
- Daily Movement: Step count and active time
- Mindfulness: Meditation or mindfulness practice
- VO2 Max Percentile: Age and sex-adjusted cardiorespiratory fitness - the strongest predictor of longevity
- Autonomic Recovery: Heart rate variability and resting heart rate
- Sleep Physiology: REM and deep sleep quality
- Body Composition: BMI within healthy range
VO2 Max is the single best predictor of all-cause mortality. It measures your body's maximum oxygen uptake during exercise - essentially how efficiently your cardiovascular system delivers oxygen to your muscles.
Research shows that moving from the bottom 25% to even the 25-50th percentile reduces mortality risk by 50%. synqology uses the FRIEND treadmill dataset to calculate your age and sex-adjusted VO2 Max percentile, so you know exactly where you stand compared to others your age.
How to improve it:
Research shows that moving from the bottom 25% to even the 25-50th percentile reduces mortality risk by 50%. synqology uses the FRIEND treadmill dataset to calculate your age and sex-adjusted VO2 Max percentile, so you know exactly where you stand compared to others your age.
How to improve it:
- Zone 2 training (conversational pace cardio)
- High-intensity interval training (HIIT)
- Consistent aerobic exercise 3-5x per week
Heart Rate Variability (HRV) measures the variation in time between heartbeats. It's a key indicator of your autonomic nervous system health and recovery capacity.
Why it matters:
Why it matters:
- Higher HRV indicates better stress resilience and recovery
- Low HRV is associated with higher mortality risk
- HRV naturally declines with age, but can be improved with the right interventions
- Sleep quality and duration
- Stress and recovery balance
- Alcohol and caffeine consumption
- Exercise (acutely lowers, but chronically raises HRV)
synqIQ is your AI-powered chat that combines your personal Vitality Index data with 12,000+ peer-reviewed studies on longevity and healthspan. You can ask about:
- Explain your score: Understand what's driving your Vitality Index up or down

Your Vitality Index improves when you optimize the behaviors and physiology that science links to longevity:
Quick wins (Behavior Score):
Quick wins (Behavior Score):
- Sleep 7-9 hours consistently at the same time each night
- Get 150+ minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity weekly
- Strength train 2-3x per week for muscle maintenance
- Walk 7,000+ steps daily for baseline movement
- Practice mindfulness even 5-10 minutes helps
- Improve VO2 Max with Zone 2 cardio and HIIT

- Lower resting heart rate with regular aerobic exercise
- Optimize body composition through diet and exercise
Your Vitality Index updates daily based on the latest data from your Apple Watch:
The app also shows your 7-day and 30-day trends so you can see how your longevity metrics are improving over time.
- Behavior Score: Updates each morning based on yesterday's sleep, activity, steps, workouts, and mindfulness minutes
- Physiology Score: Updates when new VO2 Max, HRV, or sleep stage data is available
The app also shows your 7-day and 30-day trends so you can see how your longevity metrics are improving over time.
The Vitality Index ranges from 0-100. Here's how to interpret your score:
Focus on trend over time rather than any single day's score.
- 80-100: Excellent - You're practicing behaviors and have physiology associated with exceptional longevity
- 60-79: Good - Room for improvement, but you're on a healthy trajectory
- 40-59: Average - Focus on your weakest components to see meaningful improvement
- Below 40: Needs attention - Talk to synqIQ about which areas to prioritize
